Recently I shared tips and techniques using your Whisper White Craft Ink…
Are you ready for another great technique?

Stamp an image on coloured card stock in whisper white craft ink.  When it’s dry, colour it with your watercolor pencils, ink and aqua painters or  stampin’ markers. On the card below, I stamped the new Painted Harvest stamp set (available 1st September) in whisper white craft ink on Early Espresso card stock, and coloured with crushed curry and emerald envy inks applied with an aqua painter.

To be honest, this card is not my favourite creation but some of my customers really like it and it is a good example of how whisper white ink looks on really dark card stock.

Remember: the darker your card stock, the less vibrant your colouring will be. Experiment with using on a pale card stock like Soft Sky, Powder Pink, So Saffron, Sahara Sand or Pear Pizzazz – you’ll be surprised with the results.  This technique opens a whole new world of possibilities.

White wash technique

The next way to get the most out of your whisper white craft ink is probably one that doesn’t automatically spring to mind…use the craft ink to subdue, dull or tone down brightly patterned Designer Series  Paper DSP.  Simply use your sponge brayer to roll your whisper white ink across the patterned paper. (you could use a Stamping sponge or a sponge dauber to apply the ink. Or rub your ink pad direct on your paper.) Dry it with your heat tool or let it air dry and use it on your project. It completely changes the look of your paper and your project.  Trust me and try it!

Both the cards pictured above have been created with exactly the same materials:

Not possible!” you say, “They look so different!”

Trust me they are made with the same materials and identical layouts! However, I used a direct to paper technique to apply the whisper white craft ink to the DSP on the card on the right.  It creates a “white washed” look.  Whisper White Craft ink seems to “fade” the bright whisper white in the DSP. This technique allows DSP white white undertones to coordinate better with very vanilla cardstock and water color paper.

Of course you can try this technique over dark card stock for an opaque look.

Other ways to use whisper white craft ink

If you love the look of grey white washed timber that you have seen all over Pinterest, ink your hardwood background stamp with whisper white craft ink and stamp on smoky slate cardstock.  The effect is stunning.  (Keep an eye out next month for my blog post  about the Hardwood background stamp and different ways to use it.)

As I mentioned earlier, you can use your craft ink pad for heat embossing. Don’t forget to rub your project over with your embossing buddy before stamping – This reduces static and stops the embossing powder sticking in unwanted places.

If you want to stamp on glass or tile, whisper white craft ink will work on that too – it will take a LONG time to dry. Drying time will depend on the temperature and humidity.  I recommend you stamp your project and move it to a safe place (without touching the stamped image) to dry overnight (or for at least a few hours). Remember in this case… patience is a virtue.

Well that’s enough from me for now… hope these tips inspire you to get a bit inky with your whisper white craft ink pad.  If you don’t have a new whisper white ink pad, head over to my online store and order yours today.
