During sale-a-bration, I did a party for the lovely Estelle and her friends.  It was an awesome, bright and happy morning filled with lots of creating.  This lovely group of ladies are all experience card maker so I was a little nervous about the make and take.  Estelle mentioned that she and her friends seem to struggle with men’s cards.  They are “pros” at flowers and all things girly and pretty but cards for men get them stumped! So an idea for my make and take was born.

A quick peruse through the 2018 Occasions catalogue showed that the options for men were pretty slim with only two stamp sets (Truly Tailored and Dad Jokes) and the True Gentlemen Designer Series Paper dedicated just to men. (Of course, there are a number of other sets in the catalogue that you can use to make men’s cards including Apron of love, Waterfront, Bird Banter, Birthday Wishes for You, Birthday Wit and more! ) So I decided to go with Truly Tailored stamp set.

I had so many ideas… BUT… in my rush to place an order  and get everything I wanted I overlooked ordering the True Gentlemen Designer Series Paper.  So I needed a plan B.

My Plan B

A make and take is supposed to be quick, easy and, of course, a project that you would be proud to give someone. With that in mind I came up with this card. (Sorry about the photo quality, it was another one of those times where I forgot to take a photo before I gave the project away.)

Men's cards are so quick and easy to make with the Truly Tailored Bundle and some bright designer series paper. Find out how I stepped up this card at www.TheCreativeEclectic.com #trulytailored #menscards #stampinup #2018occasionscatalogue #2018 #su #handmadecards #quickandeasy

This card only requires stamping two images (The Burlap Banner and the “Lookin’ Sharp” images) and using a punch to two banners and the “Lookin’ Sharp” shape.  It is literally a five minute card,

Many card makers get stuck in the habit of making men’s cards in dark or neutral colours such earthy chocolates, grays and dark greens. One of my Stampin’ Up! colleagues commented how he wished woman would make more bright cards for men.  His plea for bright cards hit a chord so I choose the Lemon Lime Twist sheet from the 2018 sale-a-bration Bubbles and Fizz designer series paper (now discontinued) for this project.  Bright is certainly one way to describe this project!

Here’s what we used to make the card above:

Fast forward to now…

At the Occasions Catalogue “Play With My Stuff” event last Saturday (28th April), Alison and Jenny both wanted to make a quick easy men’s card.  The make & take above sprang to mind. Sadly, I didn’t have any Bubble and Fizz Designer Series paper left. We did however have a Lemon Lime Twist ink pad,  background stamps and some whisper white cardstock. We could make our own background paper.

See we didn’t need that designer series paper at all! This project was further was stepped by:

  • using a Dapper Denim card base
  • layering the sentiment on some Lemon Lime Twist cardstock and
  • adding some gorgeous Night of Navy Ribbon.

This card became a 15 minute card because we needed to stamp one extra image, punch another tag, trim the sentiment layer with our paper snips (scissors) AND, of course, we needed to chat and drink tea while creating.

Changing things up and keeping it bright!

As I was preparing this post and cooking dinner (multi-tasking at its finest!), I pondered what the second card would look like if I swapped the burlap and marbled elements.  So in the 12 minutes it took for my pasta to become “Al dente”, I found and cut all my card stock to size, stamped, punched trimmed, dry embossed the dapper denim banner, assembled, and photographed the version below.  All while making sure our pasta didn’t boil over. (Did I mention my craft room is in a state of disarray with numerous projects on the go? Well it’s a mess! Thank goodness I can shut the door!)

Personally, I prefer the Lemon Lime marbled background but I do like the added texture that the dry embossing on the Dapper Denim banner provides on version two. Make sure you comment below and tell me which card you prefer.

Oh, I forgot to say the Truly Tailor Bundle is retiring at the end of May and sadly the stamp set will NOT carry over into the new catalogue. If you want this stamp set order it now before it’s gone! If you click the photos below you’ll got directly to my online store.
