Hey Love, you’ve got a Valentine’s day card sorted for your beloved sorted haven’t you? There’s only one week to go!
No? Never fear, I’m here to help.
While I’m helping, I thought I’d continue with my Hey Love cling stamps expose – an indirect challenge set by my Downline, Kim Heath (You can check out the first two projects here: Love is all around and “Going ape over Valentine’s Day!).
Hey Love these cards
Today, I’m sharing two cards because they both showcase Hey Love cling stamps, heat embossing, water colour pencils background stamping in coastal cabana and minimal supplies. Actually, it’s the perfect card to use up those small card stock scraps you have stashed away.
Take look.
The “Otter be my Valentine’s” card on the left is a top folding card while the “Hey Valentine” card on the right is a side folding card. Both card bases are made with Thick White card stock. The dimensions for the card bases and first layer are:
- Top Folding card: 10.5cm x 29.7cm (4.135″x11.69″), scored and folded at 14.9cm (5.845″)
- Side folding card: 14.9cm x 21cm (5.845″ x 8.27″) scored at 10.5cm (4.135″)
- First layer: approximately 9.5cm x13.5cm or 3¾” x 5¼”
On both cards two stamps from the Artisan Textures were repeated stamped in Coastal Cabana ink to create the background. Then the words were heat embossed with versamark, white embossing powder and the heat tool. (You can find out the heat embossing basics and tricks here ) This layer was attached to the base card using dimensionals.
REMEMBER: use your anti-static embossing buddy before you stamp in Versamark to prevent stray embossing powder sticking to your card.
OPTION B: If you want to use clear embossing powder instead of white you should heat emboss BEFORE stamping the Coastal Cabana background to get an emboss resist effect.
On the “Otter be my valentine” card, the otter was also stamped in versamark on the first layer and heat embossed to create a shadow and white emphasis marks around the otter. Take a look at what I mean:
Colouring the Hey Love Critters
Both critters were stamped in Jet Black StazOn ink on scrap pieces of thick whisper white card stock from my stash.
The Blue Bird was stamped off on a my gird paper before it was stamped on the white card to make the outline paler. It was then colour with Bermunda Bay, Pacific Point and Pumpkin Pie Watercolour pencils and blended with the Clear Wink of Stella brush. The heart was coloured with a Real Red Stampin’ write maker. It was then punched with a circle punch and layered onto a Pool Party scalloped circle. Stampin’ Dimensionals were used under the Pool Party scallop circle layer to attach it to the Bermunda Bay circle. This was attached the stamped whisper white layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
The finished card is super cute:
The otter card is a little more involved because I blended a few different watercolour pencils together to create hybrid colours Would you believe that I didn’t write down the exact colours that I used? (Obviously I wasn’t thinking that day!) I spent ages trying to recreate the colours again! As far as I can work out, I mixed Cajun Craze and Cherry Cobbler for the nose and belly. The body was Cajun Craze mixed with Early Espresso, while the speech bubble was Coastal Cabana. everything was blended with the Clear Wink of Stella Brush. (Feel free to experiment with the water colour pencils.) To make the heart really vibrant, the Real Red Stampin’ Write marker got a work out. The otter and speech bubble were fussy-cut (hand-cut) with paper snips and added to the stamped whisper white layer.
Here are both the finished cards again:
Hey (do you) Love these project?
Did you enjoy these project? I hope so. I wanted to demonstrate that you don’t need heaps of layers to have a great card AND Valentine’s cards don’t need to be pink or red.
