Do you love patterned paper?
YES! But, do you use your paper?
If you are anything like me, you probably see gorgeous papers (or DSP) and say “I have to have that”, buy it and then avoid using it at all costs because “it’s way too beautiful to cut it up”. Then you have a whole heap of beautiful, and sometimes expensive paper that never gets used. Sound familiar?
You are not alone! 1000s of papercrafters “hoard” their patterned paper for that “special” project. Then they run out of room to store all that wonderful productsand discard it years down the track because it’s damaged, no longer on trend or your tastes have changed. Sadly, that gorgeous paper you loved has cost you money as it is wasted and hasn’t brought the joy that you had planned.
No, I haven’t been peaking in your window. This is common to papercrafters.
Share Joy with your patterned paper
What if I told you that you could easily bring joy with your designer series paper in under 10 minutes? Would you jump at the chance?
Imagine being able to make 48 cards from a 25 sheet pack of 12″x12″ Designer Series Paper (24 sheets), a pack of whisper white or very vanilla cardstock, ribbon from your stash and a stamp set with minimal waste and cardstock left over.
48 cards to bring joy to those you love.
Now that would be worth sacrificing that Designer Series Paper (patterned paper) for, don’t you think?
Let me show you how
To show you how simple and easy it is, I created in this week’s Tuesday technique video. Take a look:
How easy was that? So simple!
You can use this with any patterned paper and any stamp set. The possibilities are endless. Imagine how many cards you can make and how much joy you can spread when you use that patterned paper in your stash. Of course, when you use up your old paper you can always buy more new paper.
I’ll include a complete list of products used at the bottom of this post so you can recreate this card at home.
Recap on the “how”:
- Cut your 12″x12″ Designer Series paper in half to leave you two 6″ x12″ pieces
- On the long side cut the paper to 14.9cm (57/ 8“) – keep the off-cut to decorate the inside of your card.
- Turn the paper and trim ½cm (or ¼”) off the short edge – again keep the off-cut
- Score at 4″ and 8″ (Approximately 10.5cm and 21cm) (Note: to save time you could score the whole 12″ x 12″ sheet before you cut)
- Fold on the scorelines and burnish (rub) the folds with your bone folder. The narrowest section/panel should folded inside of the card. If the paper has a pattern make sure it is the correct way up. (no one wants upside down flowers or characters)
- Open out the patterned paper card base.
- On the Whisper White cardstock adhere two strips of designer series paper and trim off any excess. Use grid paper to help line up your strips.
- Adhere this panel to the centre section of your card base leaving an equal border around the edges.
- Close the card and attach ribbon using glue dots.
- Add a stamped shape (e.g. stitched oval) with dimensionals and embellish as needed.
- Repeat steps 2 to 10 with the other half of the paper!
Voila! Done! Too Easy!
Here’s another look at the finished card and a closer look at the colouring.

I love how vibrant the watercolour pencils are when used with the wink of stella.
