Are you a card maker?

Do you love it when your cards bring someone joy?

Wouldn’t it be great if your cards could help someone stay in touch with people who worry about them?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then put your card making skills to good use this World Card Making Day (WCMD), Saturday 5th October! Cards for Troops need your help.

Calling All Card Makers - Cards for Troops Needs your Help.Cards for Troops

Each year, Cards for Troops send boxes of handmade cards to serving Aussie troops around the world so that they can write to their loved ones, friends and family in a lovely handmade card.
By sending a card, handmade with love, our troops are able to stay connected with their loved ones waiting at home.
Imagine the delight of a child when they receive a card from their mum, dad, or favourite aunt/uncle who they haven’t seen in months.  Nothing quite matches seeing your loved one’s handwritten words and knowing when they wrote that card they were safe if only for a little while. it is very reassuring. Trust me!

The regions where many of our troops are deployed, do not have local card shops, so they really appreciate the efforts of people who are able to send them good quality handmade cards to send home.

There is a another reason these cards are so important…

Studies show that military personnel who do “normal” civilian activities  (e.g. writing a Christmas or Birthday cards, buying presents and organizing things for their home or family) transition better to civilian life when their military service ends.   There is some evidence to suggest these every day tasks also enable service personnel to  better to manage Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). My best friend suffered PTSD after being stationed in East Timor and my uncles also suffered “shell shock” after the second world war.  So you can appreicate this cause is dear to my heart.

Celebrate WCMD and create for a cause!

Come along to a free event on World Cardmaking Day make a handmade card or two that will be donated to the Card for Troops Campaign. If you’ve never made a card before that’s okay, I’ll help you out. You can check out all the event details and RSVP here.
DId I mention that everyone gets a handmade card to take home with them too?
You can make any style or occasion card that you like. We always need I love You, Young boy & girl birthday cards (ages 3-12), teen birthdays (both boy & girl) & adult male birthday cards. Of course, Wedding, sympathy, baby, Valentine and Thinking of you
Of course, you can bring your own materials or stamps to use up those bits and pieces  (absolutely no glitter please) in your stash or use the card packs and paper from my stash. It is a wonderful opportunity get together to create, inspire each other, share ideas and support our troops who selflessly serve our country.
Make one card or stay the whole afternoon!
Bring your own scissors and adhesive and some afternoon tea to share.   Tea and Coffee will be provided.
If you’d like to come to this free event,  please RSVP on the Facebook Event before Wednesday 2nd October 2019.

Our Goal

It is our goal to deliver over 200 handmade cards. My Stampin’ Up! colleague, Susan at Papercraft Central is coordinating the efforts has recieved cards from all over the country.

I can’t make it but I want to help

If you can’t come on the day, you can still help!
Perhaps you are a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator or papercraft teacher who has a heap of swap cards or card fronts from events or project samples?  Perhaps you make lots of cards every day and have more cards than you know what to do with?  Maybe you’re part of a craft group that makes cards? Maybe you’ve been to a cardmaking class to learn a technique but the cards aren’t really your style?  You can help by donating any handmade cards and envelopes before 5th October.
Just keep in mind a few rules:
  • Please ensure your cards do not contain any glitter – NOT ONE BIT – NONE! Not even glittery heat embossing or ribbon! (Save those for another good cause.) This is really important!  As you know glitter falls off and gets EVERYWHERE!!! The last thing we is for our defence force personnel get glitter on their combat fatigues. Glitter reflects light so we don’t want our troops to be sparkly and reflective like a disco ball when out on convert patrols.   We want to keep them safe.
  • Make sure your card is reasonably flat with no metal embellishments or huge bows that could get caught in the Post Office’s machines. it is a long way from the Middle East and Europe to Australia so we want cards to arrive home in the best possible condition.
  • Write stamp or label the back of your card with your name.
  • Donate cards you will be proud to give to someone!
  • Standard size cards that fit in a C6 envelope are preferred.

Thanks for your help!

Until next time… happy creating!

Chrissy
