Fabulous Flowers

Flowers are featured heavily in Stampin’ Up!’s new product offering. There are so many to choose from!

Today. I’m featuring five flower sets that you might have missed as you waded through your new catalogue.  There’s so much to see that it’s hard to see everything in the catalogue. My job is to help you find what you’re looking for.

Yes, there are plenty of other beautifully detailed flowers in the catalogue that you can colour that won’t be in my Top 5. Although these sets are amazing, the stamps I’m pointing out are easy to colour for those days that your colouring skills might not be so stellar. I want to give you easy, quick options to get great results. Why make it hard to create?    The stamps feature here, contain big “open” blooms that are fast to colour and don’t have lots of intricate detail which can be challenging on days when your hands aren’t cooperating or are a bit shaky or if your eyes aren’t seeing lots of detail.

What about the Suites?

I’m NOT pointing out the fabulous flowers in the suites (Flowers for Every Season, Ornate Garden, Peony Garden, Artistry Blooms or In Good Taste) as Stampin’ Up! has dedicated a lot of space to them in the new annual catalogue. I’m focusing on five sets, new and returning, that you might have missed because they take up less space in the catalogue. I’m sure you’ll easily find the suites all on your own.

1. Basket of Blooms

Now, Basket of Blooms (page 48) is one set that you’re either going to LOVE, or it will just be a “MEH” set. Although it doesn’t have huge open blooms, it has a vase, pot, and a basket that cry out to be coloured.  Imagine creating Easter cards featuring the baskets or using the pot with blooms from other sets or even tools, cooking utensils or pens.  This set lends itself beautifully to being coloured with Stampin’ Write Markers, Watercolour pencils, and Aqua Painters.  The bonus feature of this set is it coordinates with the Small Bloom Punch. This is a low-cost option.

2. To a Wild Rose

Okay. I know To A Wild Rose (p15) was in last year’s catalogue but it is really fabulous and deserves another mention. Thie gorgeous flower is perfect for color.  Heat Embossing and water colouring are my favourite techniques to use with these stamps. This set has the added bonus of having stamps to add detail using two and three-step stamping if you can’t be bothered to get out your colouring tools.  The words in this set are great too.  There are matching Wild Rose Dies that are sold separately – the dies also feature a great label and dies for adding a little intricate detail.

3. So Much Love

At first glance, it is easy to see why “So Much Love”  is perfect for colouring.  It has big open petals and little details.  Use the two different sized flowers to create a garden.  The words in this set have a nice font and are suitable for a variety of different occasions.  The set even has some dots for backgrounds & distressing.  Again this is one of the lower cost stamp sets. Check out the sample on page 52 of the annual catalogue to see how it was used. Use this set with your Stampin’ Blends, Watercolour Pencils, and Stampin’ Write Markers.  I can’t wait to try using this flower with no-line water-colouring technique.

4. Forever Blossoms

You may have seen Forever Blossom featured in the mini catalogue earlier in the year. Not only does it contain large detailed Cherry Blossom flowers that are great either coloured or just stamped but it has lots of words written in beautiful fonts.  Not only can you use the Cherry Blossoms as feature flowers, but you can also use them as background stamps and totally extending the usability of the set. The Cherry Blossom Dies perfectly coordinate with this set and allows you to add lots of detail to your stamped images.

5. Good Morning Magnolia

Another returning favourite is the Good Morning Magnolia cling stamp set and with good reason! It has a MASSIVE yet gorgeous magnolia bloom, fabulous font, leaves and was a stand out from last year’s catalogue.  Team it with the coordinating magnolia memories dies and it is so easy to add dimension to a project – the big flower is also very easy to fussy cut (cut out with scissors) making it a good choice if you don’t have a die-cutting machine. Last year this was a HUGE seller but if you are new to Stampin’ Up! you may not have seen it before. Any colouring technique can be used with these flowers.

Why stop at 5 Flowers?

There is one more stamp set featuring flowers that I think is worth a mention as it’s different to all the others I’ve talked about… think of it as a little bonus! The set is…

6. Daisy Lane

You might be puzzled why I’ve included Daisy Lane in this line-up.  Trust me the flowers in this set are so EASY to colour, basically two swipes of the pen on each petal and you’re practically done. The different sized daisies make great backgrounds too. These daisies look amazing layered and the set coordinates with not one but two punches  (Daisy and medium daisy)! Try making these daisies into a little 3-d project, they are so cute in a mason jar!

Other colour-friendly flowers

There are so many flowers in the catalogue and all have their charms.  The following flowers at least deserve an honourable mention too:

All of these sets have either coordinating die cuts or punches – this makes them easier to use.

Here’s the recap of my Top 5 (+1)
