Shark Week with a Twist – Day 5
Well, it seems that the terrific turtles aren’t ready to give up the blog just yet. Yesterday they staged a Turtle Takeover. Today they are still here and they brought a very big friend, a Whale!
Terrific Turtles Card
I had so much fun creating this card. Although I’m not a huge fan of fussy-cutting, this turtle was so quick and easy to cut out.
If you’re wondering how the turtle was coloured, I’ll share the secret. First, ink up the stamp with Granny Apple Green, and BEFORE you stamp use the Jade Stampin’ Write Maker to colour the shell. Yes, colour over the shell that already has Granny Apple Green ink on it. (trust me I’m a professional 🙂
Just add ink
If you look closely, you’ll see the embossed pool party cardstock has light and dark areas. To achieve this look, simply rub your embossing folder with ink all over the indented side then place the cardstock on the other side and carefully close the folder and run it through your die-cutting machine
Put it on an angle
Normally, when I use ribbon on a card, I place it so it runs left to right or top to bottom. It was fun to experiment with placing it on a diagonal. To save ribbon, just cut your ribbon 2cm longer than the front of the card and adhere to the reverse of the embossed layer using glue dots. I tied my bow while the ribbon was still attached to the reel using my 10-second bow maker – not only did I make a perfect bow but I saved ribbon too. Attach the bow with three glue dots.
Don’t forget the inside too.
Four stamped images can completely elevate the card and set it apart from others. While you’re at it add some stamped images to the envelope too. It’s an easy way to make your happy mail even happier.
Say hello to Terrific Turtle’s little friend
I mentioned that the Terrific Turtles brought a friend to interrupt the shark frenzy. Now it’s time to meet Mr.Whale.
This card is made from all the same basic materials but flipped on its edge (turned 90°). There is an extra strip of Just Jade Ribbon and I’ve added some of the gorgeous Pool Party Sheer ribbon from the Whale of a Time Suite Collection.
You may have noticed that the coral isn’t quite as vibrant as the Calypso Coral sea horse on the turtle card. (Yes I used the same ink pad for both!) The shading difference is because I stamped-off my stamp on my grid paper before I stamped it on the stitched rectangle. You may notice some of the seaweed is different vibrancy too – these were also “stamped-off”.
This whale is stamped in basic gray on a piece of whisper white BUT to save time you could easily punch out a whale image from the fabulous Whale of A Time DSP.
Of course, I stamped the inside too.
Terrific Turtles one last look…
Hope you enjoyed today’s terrific turtles and their takeover of shark week with a twist. Be sure to leave a below comment and let me know what you think of today’s projects.
Will the sharks regain control tomorrow?
Until then… Happy Creating
