Do you have Baby Wipes in your craft stash?
Most people use baby wipes (or wet wipes) to clean their stamps (Shudder… please don’t do this… check out my post on cleaning stamps here to find out why.). Maybe you use baby wipes just to clean your hands.
What if I told you that you can use Baby Wipes in your stamping? Yes, you heard correctly…There are stamping techniques using baby wipes.
Baby Wipe techniques
Earlier today, I did a Facebook Live Video showcasing THREE baby wipe techniques. Here’s the video in case you missed it.
There are other baby wipe techniques but I just wanted to share my three favourites, which are:
- Using the baby wipe as an ink pad
- Splotched Baby Wipe
- Striped Baby Wipe.
Just remember techniques 2 & 3 work best on glossy card stock or glossy photo paper. They also work on Stampin’ Up!’s new Mother of Pearl Specialty Paper.
After I finished the video, I received a few messages asking for information on what products I used and to show how I’d used each technique on cards and what products I used. So because you asked for it here they are:
Techniques 1 & 2
Products used on Card 1
- Flowing Flowers Cling Stamp Set
- Basic White A4 Cardstock
- A4 Glossy White Cardstock (retired)
- Polished Pink A4 Cardstock
- Gorgeous Grape Classic Stampin’ Ink Refill
- Magenta Madness Classic Stampin’ Ink Refill
- Polished Pink Classic Stampin’ Ink Refill
- Polished Pink 3/8″ (1 Cm) Open Weave Ribbon
- Stampin’ Dimensionals
- Mini Glue Dots
- Multipurpose Liquid Glue
TIP: If you have a heat tool with a low heat setting you can use this to dry your glossy white card stock – ONLY use the low setting.
Card 2 – Techniques 1 & 3
Instead of using the striped baby wipe as a background, I turned it into a focal point. The flower was stamped this time using the Stamparatus, which enabled me to keep adding to the colour and make the flower really bright. The background was created by stamping the flower multiple times. If you look closely, you will see that the polished pink layer that the striped wipe piece is attached to, is embossed. I rubbed my ink pad over the raised embossing to add texture & interest.

Card 3 – Striped Wipe Technique
This is such a fun card. The Best Delivery Stamp Set is one of the most affordable stamps in the January – June 2022 mini catalogue and it provides so many creative possibilities.. birthday, Valentine’s Day, I love you, moving house and so many more. This truck is surprisingly easy to fussy cut. I used my Stampin’ Write Markers (Grape, Magenta and Polished Pink) to create the splatters. (I’m on a bit of a “splatter” kick at the moment so you’ll see this super easy technique in quite a few of my upcoming creations.)
CONFESSION TIME: The splatters are there to cover up some wayward ink that appeared on my truck after I assembled my card. It didn’t take much to turn a mess into a feature!
Card 4 – Splotchy Baby Wipe
To create the bird and flowers on this card I used the leftover pieces of my splotchy gloss card stock and heat embossed with silver embossing powder. These images are more tricky to fussy cut but I think it was worth the effort… what do you think?
You need to be extra careful when embossing on glossy card stock. Firstly, you need to be sure that the stamp doesn’t slip while you’re trying to stamp. Secondly, don’t overheat the embossing powder as the glossy card stock can curl and warp.

Card 5 – Striped Wipe
For our last card, I used colour that I rarely use. I thought it was time to show some love to Pale Papaya and So Saffron. For a bit of brightness, I threw some mango Melody into the mix. The Friends are Like Seashells stamp has a coordinating hybrid embossing folder and dies which enable you to cut and emboss at the same time – this is totally awesome and saves heaps of time. Rather than Glossy White card stock, this card uses the stunning new Mother of Pearl Specialty Paper. It is so pretty.
Be warned: when you use this specialty paper, it doesn’t like heat and does weird things that make it unusable (Please don’t ask me how I know this. 😆 )
NOTE: This specialty paper takes much longer to dry than glossy white or glossy photo paper – so I recommend leaving it for about 30 minutes to an hour and a half depending on how hot and humid it is.
TIP: If you don’t want inky fingers then wear disposable gloves.
Here are the products used on card 5.

What now?
You’ve watched the video and seen how the techniques were used in five different ways… now it’s your turn to give it a go and let your imagination run riot. You aren’t restricted to just three colours on the baby wipe – use as many as you want. I’ve done these techniques with 5 and 7 different colours.
I’d love to see what you make using these or other baby wipe techniques
