Over 30 ways to change your patterned paper
You eagerly break open a brand new pack of Designer Series Paper and coo over each sheet as you explore the pack. There are exclamations about how gorgeous it is…
BUT
It appears… that one sheet that you just don’t like… Maybe it’s the colours you don’t like? Or perhaps it’s a weird pattern, or maybe it’s too dark or bright? There’s something about it that in your mind, makes it appear just plain UGLY! (It’s okay to say a paper is ugly! I promise I won’t tell anyone.)
Suddenly, you enjoy your paper pack less. You mutter: “Really? What were they thinking? How on earth am I going to use that? ” Or, like me, you may use more “colourful” language… but this is a PG page so we will stick to the PG version. 😉
Whatever the reason you think a paper is ugly, the end result is the same. You fling the ugly paper aside. Frantically you create with the papers that you love. All the while the ugly paper sits forlornly waiting for inspiration to strike.
In time, another sheet joins the first. Then another.
Before you know it, you have a stack of “ugly” paper taunting you. Daring you to use them.
Guilt sets in as you feel you can’t buy more papers until you’ve used this stack, but buy more papers you do and the pile of ugliness grows and grows. It is easy to feel overwhelmed.
It gets worse…
Maybe you shove the papers into a box or drawer. If you can’t see them they don’t exist, right?
Months (or sometimes even years) later you stumble across this pile of ugly papers. (Yep! They’re still ugly!) You either toss them in the bin, give them away, use them as kindling for the fireplace, or donate them to an unsuspecting childcare centre, nursing home, or craft group.
It seems like a waste of your hard-earned money. Rest assured you are not alone. Such is the curse of paper crafters everywhere,
If only there was a way to make the Ugly Papers less well “ugly”
Good news! There is!
Let me introduce Ugly Paper Reimagined!
Originally, this video was going to be FIVE ways to give UGLY Paper a Makeover. It was just going to cover the following:
- Vellum overlays
- Whitewash
- Dry Emboss
- Heat Emboss
- Print and Foil
You know what? There are lots more than five ways to change the look of that paper you just don’t like…
The Ugly Paper makeover grew!
Ugly Paper Reimagined contains over 30 ways to change the look or use that ugly paper! This comprehensive video tutorial contains almost two hours of techniques and tips. It provides you options to enable YOU to use the ugly paper that is taking up valuable space in YOUR craft stash.
Join me for a play in my craft space as I explore everything from lining envelopes to whitewashing to stamping, stencilling, embossing, gliding, foiling and more.
Sure, I could have created 30+ separate videos. BUT, the benefit to having everything all in one place is that it’s easy to find and at your fingertips. I recommend that you grab a coffee and watch in segments.
This video (filmed last year) has been a long time coming as condensing and editing took much longer than I planned. (Yes, This is the condensed version!)
As I was doing the final edits, more Ugly Paper ideas sprang to mind.
However, you’ve waited long enough! Here it is:
What’s your favourite way to makeover ugly paper?
Be sure to tell me in the comments below which ones you liked and what you’re going to try first.
It’s your turn
As you can see from the video, not all experiments go according to plan. Effects will differ greatly depending on the stamps, dies, inks and embossing folders you use.
Go on. Grab those ugly papers and experiment! You’ve totally got this!
What’s the worst that can happen?
You might hate your experiment and the paper gets relegated to the bin or fireplace. OR, maybe, just maybe you will love how it turns out and end up with an awesome paper that you can use. How exciting!
Some of the products such as paper, embossing folders and masks used in the video have retired. Switch them up with something from your stash. Many items or similar are still available and you’ll find a product list at the bottom of this post. Just click on the picture and you will be whisked to my online Stampin’ Up! store.
I can’t wait to see your ugly paper makeovers. If you get stuck contact me. Let me help you take your crafting to the next level.
Until next time… Happy creating!
