I love colours but sometimes when I’m creating I have absolutely no idea whether a colour combination is going to work. Sometimes the most unexpected colours work together, other times they don’t.
With Stampin’ Up!’s release of 11 new core colours and 5 new “In colours” earlier this month, there isn’t a lot of guidance around what works together yet. So like everyone else, I’m still trying to navigate my way through the colours to find what works. This process involves a LOT of experimentation, trial and error, “ah-ha” moments and “OMG!!!! What was I thinking!” exclamations.
During this week’s Tuesday Night Lights (TNL) Facebook Live, I wanted to create with two new core colours and two existing colours, but I had no idea if they would work together. Because yet again, I was short on time (Life gets in the way!), I had to “wing it” and hope for the best. (Hmmm… “Winging it” is becoming a common theme in my TNL Facebook Lives – I guess, that’s what keeps it fun!)
The card
Here’s the card I created during the TNL Facebook live.

What do you think? I’m smitten with this cute little monkey bundle! It even cuts the bananas! On the night, this was the more popular of the two cards that I showed. You’ll find all the products I used to create this wiper card at the end of this post. If you missed the other card I shared you can check it out in my previous post here.
The Unexpected Colour Combination
I decided to go with four main colours – two shades of green, brown and yellow – to tie the jungle theme together. Here are the colours I choose:

I wouldn’t immediately think that lemon lolly and pecan pie would coordinate well. But for the sake of learning, I was willing to risk it.
Let’s take another look at the card and see how whether these unlikely and unexpected colours worked together.
Do you think it worked well? I was pleasantly surprised at how well Pecan Pie and lemon lolly worked together on both the bananas and the monkey’s super cute face. The Granny Apple Green used to ink the embossing folder added a slightly deeper dimension to the 3-D embossed parakeet party card stock.
Based on the feedback that I’ve received, it’s safe to say that this unexpected colour combination is a success! I’d love to hear what you think! Tell me in the comments below if you agree.
Until next time, Happy creating!
