It’s hard to believe we’re already in February! That means Valentine’s Day is just two weeks away—so it’s time to get a card ready for that special someone in your life. But before we dive into today’s project, let me share a little fun fact about me…
A Very Important Fun Fact About Me
I have a deep, unwavering love for hot chips. Not those sad, stringy French fries that some places try to pass off as chips. Not the trendy zucchini or sweet potato fries either. No, I mean the real deal—chunky, crispy, fish-and-chip-shop-style hot chips. The kind that are twice-cooked to golden perfection, with a fluffy inside, well-salted (and absolutely NOT with that horrid chicken salt🤢—I can’t do it! Does that mean I have to hand in my Aussie card? 😆).
Traditional sea salt flakes, a dash of pepper, and served piping hot, so hot they burn your mouth when you take a bite. It’s the ultimate form of delicious agony. And if I’m feeling fancy? A side of aioli for dipping. Crinkle-cut chips? Even better! In fact, the rosemary-salted chips from Grill’d are chef’s kiss perfection.🤤 I’ve become something of a chip connoisseur in my quest for the perfect hot chip.
And if you guessed that my go-to snack food is a packet of potato chips (or crisps, as my Kiwi husband calls them), you’d be right!
What Do Hot Chips Have to Do with Card Making?
I know, I know—you came here for a Valentine’s Day card, and I’ve taken you on a deep dive into my love for hot chips. But trust me, it’s relevant!
You see, today’s card has the sentiment “I love you more than chips” inside. And let me tell you, when I saw that, I lost it. I laughed so hard I may have snorted (I’ll deny everything if asked!). If I say I love you more than chips, then you are seriously one of my favorite people in the world.
Let’s Talk About This Handmade Valentine’s Card featuring Seagulls
I had so much fun creating this one! The beautiful Melon Mambo, white, and gold-foiled swirled “Marbled Elegance Specialty” paper is just stunning. I used the Hearts of Elegance Bundle to cut the peek-a-boo heart window and the paper heart embellishments—actually, they’re the leftovers from another project I’ll be sharing soon!
Peeking through the heart window is the “Be Mine” sentiment, which totally reminds me of the seagulls from Finding Nemo—you know, when they’re all on top of the buoy shouting “Mine! Mine! Mine!” 😂
And then there are the seagulls… oh, the seagulls! The gull holding the chip peeking through the heart window is absolutely hilarious, and the squawking seagull was carefully fussy cut for extra personality. These cheeky birds were so easy to colour with Stampin’ Blends. And when you open the card? Surprise! Inside, there are three separate little buckets of hot chips and the perfectly cheeky sentiment: “I love you MORE than chips.”
