The Wait is Almost Over

Facing Something Scary
This week, I’m stepping way outside my comfort zone. Before I joined Stampin’ Up! and started teaching classes, I was terrified of speaking to people I didn’t know. Public speaking made me physically ill. Fast forward 16 years, and here I am running classes, hosting events, and even going live on Facebook—where, let’s be honest, anything that can go wrong usually does! It’s often a comedy of errors, but I’ve survived, grown, and kept improving.
Now I’m facing another big, scary challenge: my very first stand at a major craft show.
Years ago, I dreamed of having a booth at one of these events, but the costs were too high and the thought of chatting with strangers all day made me freeze. Then earlier this year, something amazing happened—my Stampin’ Up! friends Anna and Bec asked if I’d like to take over their space at CraftAlive Brisbane this September. I said “yes” almost instantly (without asking nearly enough questions about cost or logistics… whoops!).
Of course, life threw me a curveball. In July, I tripped and injured my hand, which meant weeks of limited crafting. A scrapbook page that would normally take 15 minutes stretched into a whole day. Preparing six make-and-takes dragged from two days to over a week.
Thankfully, my hand is finally out of the brace, the concussion headaches are easing, and while the brain fog lingers, I’m crafting like a demon to get everything finished. Right now, I’m running on minimal sleep, maximum coffee, and pure adrenaline.
I couldn’t have managed without help. Steve has been incredible (he even built shelves and made flowers!), and Carol, Fiona, Jenny, and Denise all pitched in—sometimes by cheerfully bullying me into actually delegating tasks. I’m so grateful for their support.
And now—it’s crunch time. With just three days until “bump in,” I’ve still got posters to design, flyers to print, instructions to write, projects to finish, products to price, websites to update, and a mountain of admin to tackle. My stand may not look exactly like I first imagined, and I won’t be able to run all the classes I’d planned, but my hope is simple: that I’ll do Stampin’ Up! proud.

This amazing not-for-profit organisation supports women and families across Redlands and Logan. They provide domestic, family, and sexual violence services, along with court support, advocacy, and healing and recovery programs. Their HARA-DFSV workers empower survivors through trauma-informed, client-led care, offering personalised support while helping them navigate health and justice systems. It’s a cause very close to my heart, and I’m proud our crafting community can help make a difference.
