In my previous post, we talked about deciding whether to gift, donate, sell, or toss the supplies that no longer spark joy in your craft room. But here’s the tricky bit—once you’ve made those decisions, it’s all too easy to put things in tubs and then… let them sit. Weeks (or months!) later, those tubs are still there, still taking up space, and still weighing on you.
Let’s look at how to actually close the loop so those boxes don’t become clutter all over again.
Gifting
If you’ve chosen to gift, don’t leave it for “someday.” Identify exactly who you want to give it to—a crafty friend, a school, or a local group—and set a date to pass it on. Even better, put the items straight into a bag and deliver them within a week. The faster you move them out, the faster your craft space feels clear again. (Moving fast stops you from second guessing your decisions, or changing your mind.)
Selling
Listing items online can be a great way to recoup some money, but only if you actually do it. If you’ve set something aside to sell, give yourself a clear deadline—say, two weeks. If it’s not listed by then, it automatically moves to the gifting pile. This prevents your “sell later” tub from turning into a permanent storage box of guilt.
Trash
It’s okay to throw things away. Broken tools, dried-out glue, tiny scraps that will never be used—these don’t need to linger in your space. Remind yourself that your craft room is meant to inspire, not overwhelm. By letting go of true rubbish, you’re making room for joy and creativity.
Moving Forward
The secret is action. Gift quickly, sell with a deadline, and throw away what no longer serves you. Your craft space should reflect the projects you’re excited to make today—not piles of “maybe later.” Once you close the loop on those tubs, you’ll feel lighter, more organised, and free to enjoy creating again.
And once those tubs are out of the way, you’ll be ready for the next step—deciding how to bring new supplies into your space without undoing all your hard work. (I’m really excited about this one.)
Until next time… Happy Creating.
