Welcome to Day 11 of our colour combinations of Christmas, and I’ll be honest—I may be completely in love with today’s inspiration photo.

12 Colour Combinations of Christmas Day 11 - Inspo photo chair in front of a Christmas tree - Cosy Christmas colour inspiration using Secret Sea, Cherry Cobbler and Crushed Curry, featuring an easy handmade gift card holder idea.

I can just imagine myself curled up on that gorgeous high-backed easy chair, wrapped in that deep blue and red blanket, sitting beside the Christmas tree. The red, white and yellow cushion looks pretty comfy too. While there are quite a few colours in the photo, the real heroes are the red, blue, yellow and white — everything else is window dressing… or maybe it’s just visual noise.

This is such a great reminder that when you’re working from an inspiration photo, you don’t have to use everything. Choose the colours that stand out most to you and let them do the heavy lifting.

The Colour Combination

12 Colour Combinations of Christmas 2025

Day 11

Why This Works

Secret Sea creates a rich, grounding base, while Cherry Cobbler is a deep red, it brings warmth and Crushed Curry adds a pop of brightness that stops the palette from feeling too heavy. Using Basic White for the sentiment and inside keeps everything crisp and readable against the darker tones.

When a colour combination feels bold or dramatic, adding a clean neutral gives the eye somewhere to rest — and that’s exactly what makes this card feel balanced and intentional.

Today’s project

For today’s project, I grabbed out my Ornamental Christmas Stamp Set again to create a super easy gift card holder. This design starts with a standard card base, with an extra fold added to the front to create a pocket — simple, practical and perfect for Christmas gifting.

You might notice that I’ve used a non-Christmas Secret Sea patterned paper from the 2025–2027 In Color™ 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Designer Series Paper. This is one of my favourite ways to stretch my craft stash — looking beyond a product’s original purpose and letting colour, not theme, guide the design.

The Crushed Curry stars add just the right amount of brightness and contrast to what could otherwise be a very dark card, lifting the whole project and keeping it festive rather than moody.

For the sentiment, I layered a Basic White banner over both Cherry Cobbler and Secret Sea banners, cut at slightly different widths. It’s a small step-up detail, but one that adds depth, interest and a lovely finished look without any extra fuss. (A good way to use up card stock scraps too.)

A Gentle Nudge to Go Rogue

If you’re short on time or supplies right now, this is a great card to try. Grab a favourite patterned paper that isn’t labelled “Christmas,” pair it with one strong festive colour, and let contrast do the work. This design would work just as beautifully for birthdays or thank-you cards with a simple sentiment swap — proof that versatile layouts earn their place in your stash.
