Welcome back—I’m so glad you’re still here.
It’s Day 16 of our 12 Colour Combinations of Christmas, and today’s festive palette is an elegant, non-traditional combination inspired by luxe wrapping paper. If you remember back to Day 6, I mentioned how hard it was to narrow this series down to just 12 colour combinations… well, here we are at Day 16, and I couldn’t resist sharing another one.

A Little Personal Head’s Up!

You know the drill by now—first we look at the inspiration photo and colour swatches, then we talk about the card, with a full supply list waiting for you at the end. Over the next few days, though, you might notice I talk a little less about the projects themselves. Like you, life is hectic at this time of year with end-of-year work deadlines, Christmas preparations, and lots of catch-ups.

And then, last Wednesday, my 89-year-old dad, Pat decided our lives weren’t quite busy enough.

He became dreadfully unwell, had a fall caused by infection and fever, hit his head, and ended up taking an ambulance ride to hospital. It was really serious. Thankfully, the fall didn’t cause major injuries, and the doctors uncovered some underlying issues he didn’t even know he had.

Thank goodness for my darling sister, Linda, who lives within walking distance of Mum and Dad. In her quiet, unassuming way, she stepped in, took charge, ferried Mum around, ran herself ragged, and calmly delegated tasks to me and the grandkids. She is an absolute godsend. Linda heads back to work this week, so now it’s my turn to step up and help out.

Update on Dad

Dad is doing much better, even though he’s still very ill. The hospital sent him home on Sunday so he wouldn’t pick up any superbugs, and home is a much more peaceful place for recovery. Today he’s having multiple scans—CTs, MRIs, X-rays—so fingers crossed they get to the bottom of what’s going on. We’re all hoping he’ll be well enough for Christmas Day celebrations and his 90th birthday in the new year on January 9.

I’ll be honest—I’ve been running on fumes and very little sleep. Trying to meet commitments while worrying is exhausting. Dad is usually so spritely for his age, always saying he’s “as strong as an ox and sharp as a tack.” (The Occupational Therapist and Nurses agree.) Seeing him lying in a hospital bed, looking small and so unwell, was a real shock. It was a stark reminder that time with our parents is a precious gift. The reality that they won’t always be there hit hard, and it reminded me that my parents deserve more of my attention.

Now… back to the colour combination.

Inspiration comes from many places, and today’s is a little out of the ordinary—a pile of beautiful wrapping paper and baubles. It’s luxe, elegant, and not a single traditional Christmas colour in sight… yet it still feels timeless and festive.

12 Colour Combinations of Christmas 2025

To me, it feels like an elegant snowy night sky palette. What do you think?

My Project

Today’s project is a fancy fold card that’s surprisingly easy to make, yet looks incredibly impressive. Silver heat embossing always takes things up a notch, adding that instant touch of elegance.

Sadly, the Classic Wedding Bundle (an Online Exclusive) that I used is no longer available. But don’t let that stop you—you could easily substitute almost any large image for the car. Trees, florals, or even a tractor would work just as well. You could also create a wreath using the Friendly Foliage set for a completely different look.

This is one of those designs that adapts beautifully, depending on the imagery and colour combination you choose.

I pulled out my good old retired stamparatus (stamping platform) to line things up more easily and to ensure I got the back window of the car really dark. So if you have a Misti or some other stamp positioning tool or platform be sure to use it. You may notice the rear window is shiny. Once I finished colour the window, I brushed it with versa mark ink and cover it with clear embossing powder. Once the powder had melted, all that was left was a glossy, glassy look. It’s the little touches that make a project stand out.

How to make the fancy fold

To make this fold you basically cut at a diagonal the front from the top left corner (centre fold line) to a point 4″ from the fold line along the bottom edge. Easy so far, right?

Then you take this cut off piece, measure and mark 1½” from the left corner (diagonal cut end) on the top and bottom edges then cut on the diagonal between the top and marks. This piece gets stuck to the card in the top right hand corner after you’ve put the decorated inside piece in. (I hope that makes sense.)

Here’s a peek at the inside

Thank you for sticking with me through this series—and through a slightly more personal chapter today. Creativity has a wonderful way of grounding us, even when life feels uncertain.

Until next time… happy creating.
