Day 17 – Bright, Bold and Joyfully Unapologetic

Hello… I’m back again. Honestly, I just couldn’t stay away. I think we’re officially up to Day 17 of our Colour Combinations of Christmas, and today’s inspiration came from two very different but equally joyful places.

The Inspiration Photo

Inspiration photo and Stampin' Up! colour swatch - pink and orange wrapped christmas presents and accessories on a green and orange background No#17 colour combinations of christmas swatch: Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie and Shaded Spruce

First, let’s talk about the inspiration photo. Two boldly wrapped gifts in hot pink and vibrant orange sit against a deep, vivid green background. Yes, there are other colours scattered throughout, but the real heroes here are unmistakable — pink, orange and green. Everything else is just noise. When I first saw this image, it immediately reminded me of a photo my dear friend Marnie sent me months ago of the Myer Christmas decorations in those exact colours. They’re playful, oversized and full of personality. If you don’t believe me, pop into any Myer store, look up, and you’re almost guaranteed to spot a Christmas swag or baubles floating overhead in all their colourful glory.

Today’s Colour Combination

Bonus Combo

Today’s colour combination is Melon Mambo, Shaded Spruce, Pumpkin Pie and Basic White, and honestly… it’s one of my all-time favourite Christmas palettes. It’s bright, happy and includes pink — how could anyone be unhappy opening a Christmas card in these colours?

My Project

A bold Christmas colour combination using Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie and Shaded Spruce for an easy, post-friendly card.

My project is a deceptively simple one. This is a very flat card, even though there are four layers between the Melon Mambo card base and the top Basic White layer. Because there are no Dimensionals or raised embellishments, it’s perfect for posting and ideal for batch making. This is absolutely a production-line style card. Die cut a stack of ornaments from the Ornamental Christmas Bundle in Shaded Spruce and Melon Mambo, heat emboss them in gold (and while you’re at it, make a few extras to decorate the inside of the card too), then heat emboss the sentiment in gold on the Basic White layer. After that, it’s simply a matter of assembly.

If you want to add extra

If you’d like to step it up just a little, you could add Baker’s Twine, Linen Thread, or even the retiring ¼” white ribbon — coloured with Stampin’ Blends or Stampin’ Write Markers. But honestly? The gold heat embossing really is enough. Sometimes less truly is more. Many card makers have a habit of overcomplicating things, and there’s a fine art to knowing when to step away from the supplies and leave a card exactly as it is.

Is this colour combination one that appeals to you? I’d love to know — be sure to leave me a comment below.
