Hello and Happy Friday!

It’s Day 5 of our 12 Colour Combinations of Christmas… and today we’re switching things up with a bright, unexpected colour twist. Ready for something fun and fresh?

Before we begin, let’s take a look at the inspiration photo. How cute is that duck… and those bright yellow lemons 🍋 (or maybe they’re yellow eggs? In which case, that duck might have a problem 😯). The burlap bow on that vibrant pine wreath is just darling.

12 Colour Combinations of Christmas Day 5 Inspiration Photo... Duck and lemon wreath with burlap bow.

Now, this photo has several greens, but we’re picking just one as our inspiration. That’s the beauty of an inspiration photo—you can use a little artistic licence and choose the colours you think work best together. Using any of my colour combos doesn’t mean you can’t add extras or even leave a colour out. You’re more than welcome to go rogue—in fact, I encourage it!

Today’s Colour Combination:

Darling Duckling, Garden Green, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla

12 Colour Combinations of Christmas 2025

How fun is that? Soft yellow and green teamed with warm neutrals is always a winner.

So how did I use it?

Today’s project isn’t a card. Nope! I decided to create a box and an accompanying gift card. And let me tell you—it was such fun to make.

I used the Christmas Greetings Mix & Match Specialty Cards & Envelopes to create the box base, and the coordinating Christmas Tags & More 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Mix & Match Specialty Designer Series Paper for the lid and the gift card. (The links to the project materials are at the end of this post) It was lovely working with two colours we haven’t used yet in this series: Crumb Cake and Darling Duckling.

These specialty cards are threaded with gold foil, which makes them extra luxe. And technically speaking, I didn’t use Very Vanilla on this project—but the box base background is close enough that I didn’t feel the need to add more. The completed box measures approximately 2¼” x 4½” x 4¼” (H), making it perfect for gifting Seal+, Multipurpose Glue, Mini Glue Dots, gift cards and envelopes, or even a treat like a cookie or truffles.

Now for the note card.

This little gift card is simply a piece of 4″ x 6″ Crumb Cake card stock, scored and folded in half. I used a piece cut from the specialty cards and one of the images from the DSP. You might also notice the ¼” strip of DSP across the centre, like a mini belly band.

Remember how I said you can add colours that aren’t in the combo? The DSP image I used brings in tiny pops of Real Red, Soft Sea Foam and Basic White. But the hero colour—Garden Green—does all the heavy lifting. A layer of Darling Duckling cardstock and matching ribbon add that cheerful pop of brightness.

I’ll see you back here tomorrow for Day 6… oh wow, halfway already! We’ll be diving into totally non-traditional regal colours.

Until next time… happy creating!
