Every so often on Foxtel there is a week of shows all about sharks, called “Shark Week” – It’s usually in the height of summer when everyone is headed to the beach. This week my creative activities have centered around creating with Stampin’ Up!’s Shark Frenzy Stamp set so I’ve nicknamed this week Shark week.
This creative frenzy came about as my friend Vickie came to visit for a creative day bringing with her, the new Shark Frenzy bundle (page 46 of the new Jan-June 2021 mini catalogue). The challenge was set for me to use Shark Frenzy. Over the next few days, I’m going to share these with you.
Daddy Shark, I Love You
As most of you know, I generally don’t go for the cute cartoon style stamp sets. While Stampin’ Up! has some super cute sets, they aren’t something I’m drawn to or buy. But they are lots of fun when you get the opportunity to create with them.
Last week when I tidied my craft room, I discovered that I had a few sheets of the Whale of a Time DSP and some die cut circles of white cardstock. These supplies provided the perfect foundation for an ocean-themed Father’s Day or Father’s birthday card. (Everything you need to create this card is listed at the bottom of the post.)
Here’s the project:
Step by Step
- Fold the Pretty Peacock card base in half (half an A4 sheet trimmed to 5¾”x 8¼”) and burnish (rub) the fold line with your bone folder to make it nice and crisp.
- Add a layer of Designer Series Paper (3¾”x 5½”)
- to the inside of the card attach a piece of white cardstock (3¾”x 5½”)
- Stamp the outline of the two sharks (one large, one small) on basic white in memento ink
- Stamp the fill of the large shark in smoky slate and the small shark in Just Jade & die cut the images
- Die cut a circle (approximately (3¼”) & stamp words in Pretty Peacock Ink.
- Attach the circle and shark images with dimensionals.
Voila! A completed card! How cute is that?
Tip for two-step stamping sharks
Two stamp stamping is NOT my favourite thing – I love the look, BUT some days I seem to have difficulty lining up my layers. This set was so easy to line up. I didn’t even need to use my stamparatus!
The trick is to stamp your outline images in memento ink first and then stamped the coloured areas with just jade or smoky slate.
If you do have trouble with two-step stamping using the stamparatus tool helps you line up the images more easily and have a practice run on the small grid paper. These images were easy to die cut too.
I love dimensionals so I used lots of them here. I layered the Daddy shark on double dimensionals, Baby shark
and the circle are both raised on a single layer dimensionals.
Remember that during Sale-a-Bration (runs till 28 February 2021) when you spend $90 AUD on current Stampin’ Up! products you get a free Sale-a-Bration Reward. So if you buy the Shark Frenzy Bundle, Whale of a Time DSP and a pack of dimensionals together you will receive a SAB reward. Check out the SAB rewards here.
I hope you enjoyed this creation.
Until Next time Happy Creating
