So Many Cards!
I have cards everywhere!
Last Saturday was World Card Making Day and I hosted a free Cards For Troops cardmaking event. A few friends came along to make a few cards to send to our defence service personnel deployed overseas. It was my second Cards For Troops Event. These seven lovely ladies got into a card making frenzy – creating all types of cards of their choice!
A couple had never stamped before. They quickly got the hang of it and were making lovely cards with everyone else! The group made 50 card in just a few hours. I had such fun seeing how people used different class packs to come up with their unique designs.
It was lovely afternoon. My card making friends brought along afternoon tea to share and I provided tea (coffee) and biscuits. Oh and Lollies (candy)… spearmint leaves and ferrero rochers were essential to effective card making! Sadly I forgot to take photos!
Card makers are generous
On our local residents Facebook group and my social media, I put a call out asking for card makers to donate some cards. My goal was to have 250 cards to deliver to the drive coordinator Susan at PaperCraftCentral.com.
Cardmakers answered the call…
The response was overwhelming! Card donations poured in. I received 100s of donated handmade cards from card makers. At one point, I couldn’t see our kitchen bench as there were so many cards. I’ve put a few photos on instagram.
620 Handmade Cards for Troops.
Yes! 620 handmade cards! May have met the goal of 250 cards. We also amassed 40 cards and 28 notecards too sparkly for our troops that are heading to a cancer fundraiser.
A Special Shout Out
Thank you to Rhoda, Helen, Dawn, Yvonne, Estelle, Lea, Fay and Kim who came along on the day. A big thanks to my hubby, Steve who helped set up on the day and sacrificed his Birthday Weekend away for the cause. A huge thank you to Dianne, Jeanette, Becky, Vickie, Laura, Kelly and Lisa who donated so many cards. Your generosity and kindness means so much.
I delivered the cards for transport yesterday. Susan tells me the our little Creative Crew are contributed the most cards. That was lovely to hear… Well Done! I knew you were superstars!!!
Are more cards needed?
You can help but just not right now. The 2019 Cards for Troops drive is officially closed for the year as these cards need to arrive at the Department of Defence ASAP to ship overseas – There will be another drive beginning in April 2020! So save your cards until then.
Messages to the Troops

Imagine if every single deployed Defence personnel (approximately 3300) received a handmade card saying “thanks for your service” in the next few months. That would be a teeny bit awesome!
It does make a difference. Take a look at the message I received from returned veteran, Jsh I recieved a really lovely message via facebook about the Postcards For Troops initiative:
Makes my heart happy to think a card from a random stranger could bring joy! Sorta makes you want to send a card doesn’t it?
Thanks again for everyone who contributed to the drive. You are amazing, wonderful and incredibly generous. I appreciate your efforts more than you imagine.
Until next time…Happy Creating
